Elizabeth Hay
(McClelland & Stewart, 2007)
I was standing at an airport bookstore, in search of a book for a transatlantic flight. In a moment of nationalism, I opted for this one instead of Bernard Schenk’s The Reader (which I later read on another flight). There is a quiet beauty to Hay’s writing that resonates as surely as the landscapes she describes.
